Head of Banking Compliance – Trading Surveillance

A Head of Banking Compliance : Trading Surveillance is required by a global investment bank to manage the Surveillance team in Birmingham, which performs a variety of surveillance tasks with respect to the Bank’s Europe, Middle East & African (EMEA) operations. This is a senior management role that would suit a seasoned banking professional used to leading large teams. No previous surveillance or investment banking experience is required.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Managing 4 teams through 4 Team Managers, with a total of 25-30 staff
  • Supporting and developing staff
  • Setting objectives and overseeing performance management, ensuring consistent delivery and service levels are maintained
  • Managing any HR issues, overseeing recruitment and succession planning
  • Acting as an overall leader and mentor to the group, including leading training sessions, representing EMEA in global projects and representing Surveillance to senior stakeholders in the business and Compliance management
  • Being part of the EMEA compliance surveillance management team and acting as a conduit between London and Birmingham based teams
  • Being a part of Birmingham Compliance management team
  • Acting as a key participant in the compliance planning strategy meetings, including being responsible for delivering parts of that strategy
  • Representing EMEA Surveillance in global projects, including implementing surveillance of new models, new products, financial exchanges and jurisdictions, as well as other enhancements to the effectiveness or efficiency of surveillance.

You will be an experienced senior manager from the banking sector with a good understanding of financial markets. Any previous investment banking experience would be advantageous but is not essential. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in compliance, risk, audit, trading and trading operations although strong managers from other banking functions will also be considered. You must have proven experience of managing and developing large teams, preferably through team leaders / managers and must possess superior communication and stakeholder management skills.


Salary:£65000 - £80000 Per Annum + bonus + excellent benefits
